I'm used to playing against the AI on normal game speed, but for this game they used the fast game speed setting, and I found it really difficult to multitask at this speed.I spawned on the same flank as the 1500 guy and actually did pretty well for a while, destroying his initial base and starting to push his pocket. But on the other flank my teammates were losing and they kept frantically signaling for help. When I sent some units that way to help, I got countered on my own flank and ended up losing my forward.

So then I started focusing on my own flank again (to avoid losing my whole base) and my teammates just got wiped out on their side. From the sounds of it you played it fine. If you kill their flank and start pressuring the pocket, you're drawing pressure away from the other flank unless their pocket doesn't notice/doesn't care.This means your teammates SHOULD be able to 2v1 or 1.5v1 the other flank - if not you're fucked anyway.

As youget better you realize all the things you should be doing, and then realize you cannot do those tasks on fast. Once you learn more, normal speed is plenty fast and you still cannot micro everything perfectly.A weaker player likely won't rebuild lumber camps, scout properly, re-arrange villies who go path to an inneficient resource pile, keep low queues to maximize production, all the while scouting and harassing the opponent properly and not building an army to have it sit around and do nothing.
