I've encountered this condition on a few PCs. After installing our volume software package and activating with our volume license key, I am asked again to activate the software. If I put the volume key in, it goes away until the next applicationlaunch.

Keeps

The latest versions of Microsoft Office (Office 365 and Office 2016, 2019) all need activating by logging into an Office 365 account. This is normally achieved upon installation, however we have noticed that Windows or Office automatic updates can sometimes result in the products being “ Disabled ” or requiring “ Activation ”. Apr 20, 2014  Office keeps asking me to activate it Hi, I have been using Office 354 for about eight months now without any problem but now, whenever I open an Office application it asks me to activate Office. The product key finder is a utility that can retrieve product keys hidden in the Windows registry. It is compatible with Office 2019, 2016, 2013, 2010, 2007, 2003 and earlier. 'My Office 2016 keeps asking for product key after reinstallation. Clearly I have forgotten it.

The activation prompt appears every time an Office application is launched. This seems to occur if we do not completely remove the 'Click-to-Run' application installed from the OEM (Dell) prior to installation, or mistakenly use a volume key to activate it (insert un-named tech here). I have run through NUMEROUSuninstall tools and instructions. I have searched registry keys and Program File locations but cannot find where this activation is coming from. Hi,Please run as Administrator to open command prompt on Windows 10, then type the following command to check the Office license status on current computer system:cscript.exe '%ProgramFiles%Microsoft OfficeOffice16'ospp.vbs /dstatusThen share us the complete command results for further analysis.I notice you mentioned the Office OEM is installed previously on this computer. Please make sure it has been uninstalled completely and check the following registry key settings:1. Close activation screen.2. On the Start menu, click Run.3.

Type regedit, and then press Enter.4. Select the following key in the registry.HKEYLOCALMACHINESOFTWAREWow6432NodeMicrosoftOffice16.0CommonOEM5. Right click the OEM value and click FileExport.6. Save the key7. Once the key is backed-up, click on EditDelete8. Repeat steps 4-7 with following keyHKEYLOCALMACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftOffice16.0CommonOEMExit Registry EditorBest Regards,Winnie LiangPlease remember to mark the replies as answers if they helped.

Winnie,Thanks for your reply.Finding those registry keys was in one of the uninstall articles I found. I had looked for them before, but checked again.

The OEM folder does not exist.Below is the output of the command.Microsoft (R) Windows Script Host Version 5.812Copyright (C) Microsoft Corporation. Yes, you are right.

The command results indicates the volume licensed Office Professional Plus 2016 has been installed and activated successfully with MAK. And anothe Office version Office 365 Personal or Office 365 Home is installed on current computer.I suggest you can go to Control Panel Programs and Features, check if another Office version is listed there. If you cannot uninstall it from Control Panel, please try the Method 2 and Method 3 in the article below to uninstall it:Best Regards,Winnie LiangPlease remember to mark the replies as answers if they helped. There was nothing listed in Add/Remove programs to uninstall. I followed the other instructions as best I could. Many registry items were not there to remove. There is afolder at C:Program FilesMicrosoft Office that I cannot delete.

There are 3.dll files that Windows says are open in another program.C:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOffice16GROOVEEX.dllC:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOffice16OLMAPI32.dllC:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOffice161033GrooveIntlResource.dllShould I try to re-install, or do you want to see if these files can be removed? Hi,About the dll files you mentioned above, it is all located under Office16 path. The GROOVEEX.dll and GrooveIntlResource.dll file is related to the OneDrive for Business client. And OLMAPI32.dll file is related to Outlook client. Make sure you have closedall Office related process in Task Manager.I suggest you can backup these file to other location, then delete them (delete all Office related files).

Make sure there is no Office applications on current computer, then only install volume license version of Office Professional Plus 2016. Check ifthe issue can be fixed.Best Regards,Winnie LiangPlease remember to mark the replies as answers if they helped. If you have feedback for TechNet Subscriber Support, contact. Hi Winnie,I was unable to delete those.dll files at first, because they were being used somewhere. What I ended up doing was backing up the registry, then searching the entire registry for those dlls.

I removed every key related to them. After rebootingI was able to delete the Office directory.I then re-installed Office 2016 from my volume license download and activated it with the appropriate key. That was successful. I immediately was notified Office needed to be activated again.I ran the script you requested previously and got the same result.

It still thinks both versions are installed.Microsoft (R) Windows Script Host Version 5.812Copyright (C) Microsoft Corporation. Hi Winnie,I seemed to have found a solution here.Running the script below removed the key and record associated with the Office16O365HomePrem installation.cscript 'C:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOffice16OSPP.vbs' /unpkey: KHGM9Just substitute your affected key for 'KHGM9'.I now only show the installation of ' LICENSE NAME: Office 16, Office16ProPlusVLMAK edition' and am not getting activationprompts. Thanks for your update. Glad that the issue has been fixed. If there is no further question, please remember to mark your solution as answer to close the thread.
