21:21Posted by mostly for portals Frost and Arcane have portals too. The Arcane rotation is very bland. It has a few tips to let good mages get a little ahead of 'bad' mages, but it's nothing crazy (what class really is these days?) The animations are bland and the few that are good looking aren't viable. I enjoy Arcane because it's my comfort spec, and Arcane Missiles proccing with lots of haste is really satisfying It is better at max level. At low level I would just use Arcane Explosion on trash packs. 21:21Posted by I wanted to play Arcane Mage (mostly for portals, DPS, & Aluneth). But as I'm leveling, I feel disapointed.

Having some leech gear on to keep you topped up during any of the mage tower fights greatly simplifies the encounter. Especially so for frost.

Tower

Four attack spells with weak animations, heavy mana cost, poor survivability. I did dungeons, but monsters dies before I can complete any cast. Is it better at max level?

I heard Frost is the PvE spec and max level is very different to level 69. That said, there are Arcane mages in PvE I think. I play it in PvP. I use Charged Up to get 4 Arcane Charges and then I don't ever cast Arcane Barrage unless Evocation is on CD (as I can just use Evocation to regenerate full mana when it's off CD) or Charged Up is off CD (as I can fire off an Arcane barrage and then instantly regain 4 Arcane Charges with Charged Up) as I want to have maximum dps. In case you hadn't thought about this much, if you're casting Arcane Blast or Mark of Aluneth or using Arcane Missiles procs with less than 4 Arcane Charges this will reduce your dps substantially, although it is necessary when Evocation is on CD as otherwise you'll go oom, unless you can eat, but the few times I've done Nighthold I wasn't able to eat as I couldn't get out of combat, so I guess this would be the same in the dungeons you've been doing. Also I hear you're supposed to use Arcane Explosion if there are 3+ targets for optimal dps, at max level at least. Anyway, on the PvP front, I've had a lot of fun with Arcane and personally, I'm ok with the animations.

Everything is different at max level. You use arcane explosion ALWAYS on trash mobs, it doesnt matter if you are lvl 1 or lvl 110. You should get comfortable with using arcane explosion in dungeons because its our main spell on trash mobs. At max level you get alot of nice artifact traits as well. I really dont get why people whine about arcane spec having few spells into their rotation. Its not that frost spec has more. Arcane and Frost spec uses the following spells during a mythic/dungeon/raid (baseline and shared mage spells are not included): Arcane Spec Arcane Blast, Arcane Explosion, Arcane Missles, Arcane Barrage, Mark of Aluneth and as utility spells Displacement, PoM, Arcane Power and Evocation. James blunt germany 2019.

Frost Spec Frost Bolt, Icelance, Flurry, Blizzard, Frozen orb, Ebonbolt, Cone of Cold (rarely used but its still a dps spell) and as utility spells Icy Veins. Now the trap most players falls into is the fact that Arcane has alot of spamming into their rotation. During your burn phase on a boss you pretty much place a Ring of Power, blow up your CDs (arcane power, potion of prolongued power) and spam Arcane Blasts and Arcane Missiles. Arcane spec is divided into 2 phases.

Burn phase and conserve phase. It might seem blant as a dps rotation but their is much that you must take under consideration during a fight because if you go OOM with evocation on CD, you might as well leave your PC and go grab a coffee.

This spec is what most people correctly state as 'Easy to play. Hard to master'. That been said, frost spec is a much better spec for PvE only if you only play Raids and high level mythics. In the rest content of the game Arcane and Fire spec is miles ahead from frost. The reason is that Frost has unbeleivable single target dps, but very slow AoE dps (compared to the other 2 specs ofc). On the other hand both fire and Arcane are AMAZING on the AoE part and good enough on ST targets (Arcane is abit better on ST than Fire). Conclusion: If you dont enjoy the dps rotation of a spec, do not play it.

But i would suggest you wait until max lvl in order to see the spec and decide. Well, its certainly not exactly. Convenient for leveling. It initially put me off a great deal too.

However as with a lot of specs in wow, it doesn't really start flourishing, if you will, untill you hit max level and get geared up. Now, alot of people will argue that Arcane in general is bland and doesn't have anything to it, I tend to disagree. While it does indeed look a bit one-dimensional on the face of it, Arcane mechanics run alot deeper then just 'the amount of buttons'. I'm by no means running down any other specs, but Arcane is the only dps caster that really manages mana.

Your damage output relies on said management. The 'skill' in playing Arcane well, is not about how well you can press Arcane Blast and/or Missiles. Rather it is about setting yourself up in such a way that you can line up as many spells with as many cooldowns as possible. In the end it's not for everyone, but I suggest you give Arcane another good look when you get to end game. I love being an Arcane mage.

Yes spamming Arcane Explosion may have given me repetitive strain but I find it very useful. WQ for example being able to do a kill many WQ in a matter of seconds and in dungeons it's great for those pesky groups of trash. I do see an issue with dps on single target but I crit 2 mil when the talents are active.

I barely notice an issue with my mana now, yeah sure I evoc in battles but the CD isn't impossible to work with and continue to make an impact. Keep up with it.
